menses and thyroid hormone
both hypo and hyperthyroidism case irregular menses.but how?
hypothyroidism
- thyroid hormone is anti prolactin effect.
- low thyroid hormone will increase the prolactin secretion.
- the high prolactin will inhibit release of FSH and LH by the anterior pituitary gland.
- This will cause no follicular cell development and lead to irregular menstrual cycle
hyperthyroidism
- increase thyroid hormone will alter the androgen metabolism.
- this will increase conversation of androgen to estrogen
- high estrogen level will inhibit secretion of FSH and LH
- lead to irregular menstrual cycle
different explaination but same result!
